November 12, 2020 – Test and measurement specialist Rohde & Schwarz extends its support to the University of New Hampshire Interoperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL) to extend their compliance test services. As a result, UNH-IOL customers can now achieve compliance for automotive ethernet cables and connectors (link segment) based on the OPEN Alliance TC9 working group test specification supporting both unshielded (UTP) and shielded twisted-pair cables and connectors (STP).

The close collaboration on an automotive test platform between Rohde & Schwarz and UNH-IOL benefits OEMs, Tier1s, Tier2s, and system integrators who want to submit their products for compliance test certification. The OPEN Alliance accredited test lab UNH-IOL has been at the forefront of developing automotive Ethernet testing since 2012. For these test services, the lab has an extensive testbed including an R&S RTO2044 oscilloscope, enabling ECU vendors and OEMs to test their 100/1000BASE-T1 compliance testing, including physical layers (PHY) and electronic control units (ECU) based on TC8 OPEN Alliance test specifications in a single laboratory. With the recent addition of an R&S ZNB8 4-port vector network analyzer, the test range has been expanded to include TC9 test specifications, specifically cable and connectors that make up the link segment section.

Dr. Nik Dimitrakopoulos, Market Segment Manager Automotive at Rohde & Schwarz, stated: “With the final release of the TC9 test specification, we want to provide our customers with confidence in verifying their cables and connectors. We are very happy to continue our partnership with UNH-IOL and assist them in extending their testing capabilities with our R&S ZNB VNA for cable, connector, and link segment testing.”

Curtis Donahue, Senior Manager of Automotive Ethernet Technologies at UNH-IOL, stated: “We are excited about the recent addition of the R&S RTO2044 oscilloscope and R&S ZNB8 vector network analyzer to our automotive testbed. Our continued partnership with Rohde & Schwarz will help expand our testing services for 100/1000BASE-T1 solutions for both silicon vendors and Tier1 automotive suppliers; as well as enable the IOL to offer test services for future automotive Ethernet technologies, such as the 10BASE-T1S PHY, which is currently being developed in the IEEE.”
